It is a phenomenon of slowing or reversing of the reaction when a salt is added while the reaction is going on.
That salt contains the common ion which is being produced as a product.
As the rate of reaction is inversely propertional to the concentration of the product.
The reaction will slows down to very low rate or even can move in reversed direction.
This phenomenon is called common-ion effect.
2CH3COOH+2NaOH -----> 2CH3COONa +2H2O
if we add CH3COONa in the container the reaction will slow down.

Answer:
The common ion effect causes the reduction of solubility when adding like ions. An example of the common ion effect is when sodium chloride (NaCl) is added to a solution of HCl and water.
