Commutative property of addition states that swapping of terms will not change the sum. So, we can say that addition is commutative for integers. In general, for any two integers a and b, we can say a + b = b + a. But, subtraction is not commutative for integers.

Correct Question:

What is commutative law?

Answer:

a+b = a+b is known as commutative law.

Explanation:

Theaw which states that numbers can be added both sides to give same answer is known as commutative law.

For example:

# Is 6+5 = 5+6?

Solution-

  • 6+5 = 5+6
  • 11 = 11

LHS = RHS, Hence verified!

# Is 6×5 = 5×6?

Solution-

  • 6×5 = 5×6
  • 30 = 30

LHS = RHS, Hence verified!

Commutative law is only applicable for Addition and multiplication. It does not apply for division and subtraction. For verification-

# Is 6-5 = 5-6?

Solution-

  • 6-5 = 1
  • 5-6 = -1

LHS =/= RHS, Hence verified!

# Is 12÷2 = 2÷12?

Solution-

  • 12÷2 = 6
  • 2÷12 = 2/12 => 0.1666666667

LHS =/= RHS, Hence verified!
