Some of the important religions practised by Indians people are Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism.
By 'communalism', we mean the opposition of religious communities to each other.
Yes, communalism can cause hindrance to the functioning of democracy for the following reasons:
1.Democracy is based on the law of equality. but communalism favours some group of people which violates the rule of law of equality.
2.healthy democratic ruling cannot be practised as some people cannot express their feelings, votes on their wish without any fear.
3. For a healthy democratic country, we need peace and harmony whereas communalism spreads religious riots and leads to violence.
