1. In India, election campaigns take place for a two-week period between the announcement of the final list of candidates and the date of polling.

2. During this period, the candidates contact their voters.

3. Political leaders address election meetings and political parties mobilise their supporters.

4. This is also the period when newspapers and the television news broadcasting channels are full of election-related stories and debates.

5. During election campaigns, political parties try to focus the public attention on some big issues.

6. They want the public to vote for their party on that basis.

Campaigning is the process where, whilst contesting an election, candidates of various political parties try to persuade the voters to vote for them over their rivals, through the use of meetings, speeches, banners etc.
