A complex sentence combines one independent and and at least one dependent clause using conjunctions. Sometimes a comma(,) is also used. An independent clause is a group of words which contains a noun and a verb and it can stand alone as a sentence. A dependent clause does not form a complete thought and is dependent upon an independent clause for meaning.
Example:- When the cake is brown, take it out of the oven.
Here, “When the cake is brown” is the dependent clause as it is dependent on the independent clause for meaning and “take it out of the oven” is the independent clause as it is a complete thought. The sentence is combined by using a comma.
