Heyya!

Compressibility factor is a way to measure deviation from ideal gas behaviour.

Compressibility factor, z=PVnRT

For ideal gas, z=1.

The deviations of real gas from ideal gas are:

1. Real gas has volume which is negligible when compared to the volume of the container.

2. There are no forces of attraction or repulsion between the gas molecules.

But actually, the gas molecules have finite volume, which should not be neglected specially at high pressure and low temperature.

Also, in case of real gases the forces of attraction and repulsion between the molecules are present.

Volume Correction:

If the volume of the container is V, and the volume available for the gas molecule = V-nb,

where n= number of moles of the gas and b= characteristic constant of the gas.

Pressure Correction:

The pressure of real gas is less than expected because of forces of attraction present between the gas molecules slows them down. So,

i)There is less number of collisions

ii)The force with which molecules collide with each other is also decreased.

P (ideal)= P (real) + p

p= reduction in pressure

Hope it helps! ☺️
