Lipids are esters of fatty acids and glycerol.

Complex or Conjugated Lipids: Along with glycerol and fatty acids, these also contain other groups like phosphorylated organic compounds, oligosaccharides or proteins. Example: Phospholipids, glycolipids, lipoproteins.

Phospholipids are triglycerides where one fatty acid is replaced by phosphorylated organic compound.

Glycolipids are associated with oligosaccharides.

Lipoproteins are composed of lipids and proteins.

Note: Glycolipids and lipoproteins occur in cell membrane.
