What is contact inhibition ? How does this phenomenon operate incancerous cells?

Contact inhibition is a process of arresting cell growth. The normal cells by virtue of contact inhibition come in contact with each other which them from proliferating rapidly. The cancerous cells have lost this property due to which they just continue to divide rapidly to form masses of cells called tumours.
