the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise, and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity, which consequently results in transfer of heat.

Convection:

The exchange of heat by the actual movement of molecules is known as convection. It usually takes place in liquids.

Lets understand the process of convection and how water gets heated !

When we take water and place it on the flame ,the bottom part of the water gets heated. Then , the cold water on and near the surface being denser and heavier sinks down and the warm water being lighter rises.

Then the water that sinked down gets heated. This process is repeated multiple times and the water gets heated .

Result :

The water got heated up with the movement in molecules and this process of heating with the movement of molecules is known as convection.
