The law of momentum conservation can be stated as follows. For a collision occurring between object 1 and object 2 in an isolated system, the total momentum of the two objects before the collision is equal to the total momentum of the two objects after the collision.

Explanation:

Conversation of momentum

In second law , of motion we have studied that the moving bodies possess momentum which is equal to the product of mass and velocity.

Momentum = mass *  velocity

When two or more bodies act upon one another , their total momentum remains constant provided no external force are acting .

It means that whenever a body will gain momentum , then other body will also lose an equal amount of momentum.

Momentum can never be destroyed nor be created . It is based upon Newton's third law of motion that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

It is obvious that the total momentum of two bodies after and before collision will remain same .

let's make this topic more clear by just taking an easy and  simple example.

Suppose a fast moving car hits a car which is at rest . Now , that car will start moving because in this collision , the velocity of car ( which was moving with high speed ) decreases and the velocity of another car ( which was at rest ) increases.

so , from here we can conclude that  increase in momentum of 2st car is equal to decrease in momentum of 1st car.

This is an illustration of law of conversation of motion .
