◆ COPRA is consumer protection act of 1986.

◆ it was there to protect consumers from
• adulterated food items such as oil.
• black marketing
• food hoardings.

◆ it made people aware of the rights of consumers. which were:-

• right to safety
• right to information
• right to seek redressal
• right to choice
• right to consumer's education

◆ told them about various quality marks:
• ISI mark for electrical goods
• Agmark for agricultural products.
• Hallmark for gold jewellery

◆ it made people aware about the three tier quasi judicial machinery of redressal.
• district level: cases having redressal below 1 lakh
• state level: cases having redressal between 1 lakh and 1 crore
• national level: cases having redressal 1 crore or more.
