The corpus allatum (CA) is the major organ of JH synthesis and release, although other tissues such as the male accessory glands and imaginal discs are able to convert JH acids to JH but are unable to synthesize the basic carbon skeleton. The CA is ectodermal in origin and is usually located in the posterior regions of the head.
