The process in which metals are been eaten up gradually by reaction of air ,moisture ,acids carbon dioxide, sulphide etc....on the surface is called as corrosion.

effects: Some of the effects of corrosion include a significant deterioration of natural and historic monuments as well as increase the risk of catastrophic equipment failures. Air pollution causes corrosion, and it’s becoming worse worldwide.

prevention:

〰️oiling

〰️painting

〰️galvanization

〰️chromium painting

〰️amalgamation

〰️alloying

〰️greasing

〰️anodisation

are the methods for the prevention of corrosion of metal .

Answer:

Corrosion is a natural process that converts a refined metal into a more chemically-stable form such as oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide.

Effects of corrosion are:

Vortex Energy Saver identifies some of the direct effects of corrosion, which include:

  • Damage to commercial airplanes that could result in possible in-flight problems.
  • Damage to oil pipelines that could cause a costly and dangerous rupture that creates significant environmental damage.
  • Damage to bridge supports that could cause a bridge failure.
  • Release of harmful pollutants from iron corrosion that contaminates the air.
  • Costs of repairing or replacing household equipment that fails.

You can prevent the corrosion of the metal by coating their surface using any of the following:

  • By applying oil, grease, paint or varnish on the surface.
  • By coating/depositing a thin layer of any other metal which does not corrode.
