➡️It is a process in which , when a metal comes in contact with moist air , it's start forming a brownish patch on the metal surface ...... this is called Corrosion.
:- Example :- Rusting of Iron Metals when placed in an open environment !

ANSWER:

● Many metal are chemically active elements and get easily affected by substance like moisture, air, acids etc.

● Iron articles that are shiny when new, but get coated with reddish brown powder when they left for sometime. this process commonly called rusting of iron. The problem with iron (as well as other metals) is oxidization takes place and the oxide formed does not firmly andher to the surface of the metal causing it to flake of easily. This eventually cause structure weakness and disintegration of the metal.

● Hence, metal is attacked by the substances around it, is said to be corrode and this process is called corrosion.

● Corrosion causes deterioration of essential properties in a material.

● Example - The material like water pipes which made up of metal continuously exposed to moist atmosphere will get it corrode and over the time water starts leaking.
