Corrosion is when a refined metal is naturally converted to a more stable form such as its oxide, hydroxide or sulphide state this leads to deterioration of the material.

When corrosion takes place on silver then it's colour changes into black. This happens as follows : The air contains some amount of sulphur in form of Hydrogen Sulphide (H₂S).
