Corrosion is the slow eating away of the surface of the metal due to attack of atmospheric gases. The formula of rust is Fe2O3. xH2O.

when iron is exposed to air,moisture it combines with water and oxygen to form rust which is an oxide compounds of iron is called corrosion.
