A couple is a pair of forces , equal in magnitude , oppositely directed and displaced by perpendicular distance or moment .
The moment (or) torque of couple is calculated by multiplying the size of one of the force by the perpendicular distance between the two forces .
SI unit - Newton metre

A couple is a force which forms two equal and opposite forces .
These forces are equal in magnitude.
They are exactly opposite to each other .
Due to this , they cancel each other .
These forces have an effect on the turning point of the body .
Couple = force × displacement of couple
∴ S.I unit of Couple = Nm
The S.I unit is Nm ( Newton metres ).
