covalent bond is a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. These electron pairs are known as shared pairs or bonding pairs, and the stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms, when they share electrons, is known as covalent bonding.

Covalent bond is a bond formed between two atoms by sharing of electrons.

Explanation:

  • Covalent bond is a type of bond which formed between two atoms by sharing of electron cloud. It is a directional bond.
  • Compounds having covalent bonds have a specific Geometry and shape.

There are three types of Covalent Bond:

1) Equal Sharing- this type of sharing is shown by same molecules have zero electronegativity difference and they are non polar in nature. for example- H-H , Cl-Cl.

2) Unequal sharing - This type of sharing is shown by molecules having electronegativity difference is not equal to zero and they are polar in nature. for example- H-Cl .

3) Dative Bond - In this bond, pair of 2 electrons belong to only 1 atom . for example- H₃N: -> BH₃.
