Critical temperature refers to the temperature of a substance in its critical state, above which it cannot be liquefied no matter how much pressure is applied.

Explanation:

  • Every substance has its own critical temperature.
  • The critical temperature of water H2O is 374 deg celcius.
  • In critical temperature, the liquid gets transformed into vapour without undergoing any progressive change (i.e,  saturated liquid to saturated vapour).
  • The vapour and liquid phases become no longer distinct after this critical temperature.
  • The gas cannot be liquefied by the pressure alone at higher temperatures.
