hi,

Critical velocity is the velocity (speed and direction) at which the flow of a liquid through a tube changes from laminar (smooth) to turbulent. Calculating critical velocity depends on several variables.

As simplest way you can understand that.... you have solved a numerical based on motion formula S=ut-1/2gt...here you used u=0( zero )because it's reached there highest position where no velocity present this position is called critical velocity....
