Definition:

The epithelial tissue consisting of a single layer of iso-diametric, cuboidal cells, is called cuboidal epithelium.

Position:

It is found in renal tubule, thyroid gland, salivary gland, sweat gland, internal ear etc. It forms germinal epithelium of gonads (testis and ovaries) seminiferous tubules of testis producing sperms.

Structural characteristics:

  1. It consists of single layer of iso-diametric cuboidal cells.
  2. The nucleus is spherical and centrally placed.
  3. It may be clear or granular.
  4. Intercellular space and matrix are absent.

Functions/Role:

It carries out the function of secretion, absorption, excretion, storage and protection.
