When warm, moist air over the ocean rises up from the surface, it starts to form a cyclone. As this warm air rises up and away from the ocean surface, it causes an area of lower air pressure below. This pulls cooler air with higher pressure in to replace it, but then when this air becomes warm and rises it starts a cycle and continues to repeat and build, gaining speed as it goes. This creates a tropical storm known as a cyclone.
