It is a transition of electrons of transition elements in coordination compounds from different energy levels i.e t2g or eg . Due to these transition of electrons there is always some change in energy which provides color to the coordination compound , or we can say due to transition of electrons between the lower energy d orbital to a higher energy d orbital by absorption of energy and vice versa. is known as d-d transition .

Hope it will help u ....

Hey there!

The transitional particles of d-orbital  did not have energy of same kind in their group. The electron are shifted from their places. d- orbital have same energy. Wavelength is associated within the transition. These are called d-d transition.

Hope it helps you!
