Dalton's atomic theory proposed that all matter was composed of atoms, indivisible and indestructible building blocks. While all atoms of an element were identical, different elements had atoms of differing size and mass.

Atoms of a given element are identical in size, mass and other properties; atoms of different elements differ in size, mass and other properties. Atoms cannot be subdivided, created or destroyed. Atoms of different elements combine in simple whole-number ratios to form chemical compounds.Dalton's atomic theory. the theory that matter consists of indivisible particles called atoms and that atoms of a given element are all identical and can neither be created nor destroyed. Compounds are formed by combination of atoms in simple ratios to give compound atoms (molecules).
