Dalton's Atomic Theory:

In 1808 Dalton proposed atomic theory. The main postulates of Dalton's Atomic theory are given below:

1. According to the Dalton matter is composed of tiny indivisible particles called atoms. They cannot be created nor destroyed or transformed into atoms of another element

2. Atoms of a given element are identical in all particles. For example an atom of zinc can resemble another atom of zinc

3. Atoms of different element are different from each other. For example an atom of copper doesnot resemble another atom of zinc

4. Atoms is the smallest particle or unit of matter which takes part in chemical reaction

5. When elements react the atoms may combine more than in one simple whole number ratio

Dalton's Atomic theory has been contradicted with the advancement of science and modified on the basis of further researches and discoveries
