Hello Friend !

A dam is built to restrict the flow of water and retain it in a particular area. This water can be distributed in the surrounding area and can be stored for future use. A dam itself remain with significant amount of water throughout the year. Thus, it is the source responsible for availability of water for the entire year in a particular area.

Dams are barriers acting like reservoirs constructed in order to hold water and this water is then used in generating electricity.
Dams act as reservoirs as water from a water body or rain is stored here and hence water is available to a particular area for long periods of time.

Hope this helps !!
