Dam:- It is a huge barrieer which is constructed across a water way, to control the flow or raise level of the water.
It is also understood as a body of water (meaning a reservior) controlled by such a barrieer.

Following are the reasons, for Dam is known a s a multipurpose river project:-
1) Irrigation:- By constructing huge dams , it would provide water to the farmers for irrigation.
2) Fisheries :- Dams would provide controlled conditions for the breeding of fishes.
3) Electricity Generation:- By constructing dams, it would help to increase the electricity generation from past decades.
4) Afforestation:- By planting trees around the reserviors, would help to enhance and maintain ecosystem.
5) Tourism:- Tourists will be attracted by the multipurpose projects, where boating etc. could be done by people.
