A dam is a multi-storied structure that stores excess water for laterb use.
We build large damsvto be able to meet our present need for water and to conserve it for future too.
Problems to be addressed are :-
1)Proper rehabilitation should be provided.
2)Compensation of agricultural lands dissolved underwater should be provided.
3)Those who lost livelihood must be provided with jobs.

A dam is a barrier constructed to hold back water and raise its level forming a reservoir used to

generator electricity or as a water supply.

Large dams are built in order to generate electricity from water supply.

The dams can be constructed only in a limited number of place preferably in hilly terrains. large areas

of agricultural land and human habitation are to be sacrificed as they get submerged. large ecosystems

are destroyed when submerged under the water in dams. The vegetation large amounts of

methane which is also a green-house gas. It created the problem of satisfactory rehabilitation of

displaced people.
