Darwin has collected innumerable species of plants and animals and by studying those species he published the theory of natural selection. in his book origin of species he has mentioned that all organisms reproduce prolifically. all organisms compete with each other in life threatening manner. those living organisms only survived those showed modifications useful for winning competition and other all organisms perished

Heya user☺☺
Basically the theory of the origin of species is the natural selection theory.
The theory states that the nature itself chooses the being that who will survive and who will not. And evolution plays a vital role in this and the natural phenomenon also.
Let us understand this by an example...
Suppose in a forest there are bugs of brown color and some are of green color.
So the one of brown color will get secure itself on the trees stem and the green one will secure themselves from pradators by hidding in the grass.
Now, suppose if somehow due to ladslide the grasses get out of it and left with soil only . At that time only the brown bugs will able to hide themselves and the green one will be eaten by the pradators.
Thats is what natural selection theory is.
Hope this will help you☺☺
