●we know that any covalent bond is made with two electrons, each of it belonging to two atoms.
●If one atom gives or donates it's lone pair to other atom which did not donate any electron, then the bond formed is called as coordinate bond.
●It is seen in "nitro" group where two oxygen atoms are combined with a nitrogen atom. Between the two oxygen atoms, nitrogen gives it's one lone pair to one of the oxygen atom. This is a very good example of coordinate bond or dative bond.
