DDT (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane) was developed as the first of the modern synthetic insecticides in the 1940s.

DDT was a commonly used pesticides for insect control in the United states until it was canceled in 1972 by the us environmental protection agency. DDT was initially used by military in WW II to control malaria, typhus and body lice.
