Fine textiles, handicrafts and other luxury products crafted for aristocracy and to be distributed worldwide, India had a strong foot holding in all of them till the start of the 18th century.

However, with British rule gaining power subsequently, both the artistic and economic value of the above declined badly affecting the economy of India. The above came to be known as the de-industrialization of India.
