Hi friend,

Decentralization is
transfer of powers from central government to lower levels in a political-administrative and territorial hierarchy.

The most basic idea that can be thought as behind the decentralisation of the government is that there a lot of problems which only be solved well at local level.

It makes it possible for the people to directly participate in decision making which consequently helps them in inculcating a habit of democratic participation.

Also, it reduces the burden over union and state governments in matters of administration.

Hope it helps!
