A Decomposition reaction is a type of chemical reaction in which a single compound break down into two or more elements or new elements.

Eg:-

The reaction in which a single reactant break down in to two or more products with the help of light, heat and electrical energy is called decomposition reaction.

It is of three types :- ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Thermal decomposition

Photo decomposition

Electrolytic decomposition

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

It's general representation is

AB + heat/light/electrical energy=>A + B

Ex:-

COOH)2. 2H2O --> (COOH)2 + 2H2O

CaCO3(s) --> CaO(s) + CO2(g)

2KClO3(s) --> 2KCl (s) + 3O2(g)

2 H2O → 2 H2 + O22

KCl(s) → 2 K(s) + Cl2(g)
