  • Deficiency diseases are the diseases caused by lack of essential dietary elements such as vitamins and minerals for a prolonged period of time.
  • Examples of some deficiency diseases are: Scurvy, Night blindness, Rickets, Goitre etc.
  • Imbalance in diet may lead to such problems.

Some Deficiency Diseases:

1) Night Blindness:

  • This disease is caused by the deficiency of vitamin A [Retinol].
  • People with this disease experience poor vision at night or in dim lit environments.

2) Anaemia:

  • This disease is caused by the deficiency of iron.
  • The person suffering from this disease does nkt have enough red blood cells.This disease leads to the lack of blood cells.

3) Goitre:

  • This disease is caused by the deficiency of Iodine.
  • The person suffering from this disease has increase in the size if thyroid gland. There is swelling in the front of the throat.
