Polynomial

An algebraic expression in which the variable involved only non-negative integral power is called a polynomial.

Degree of the Polynomial

In the case of polynomial in more than one variable, the sum of powers of the variables in each term is taken up and the highest sum , thus obtained is called the degree of the polynomial.

  • A polynomial of degree one is called linear polynomial e.g., 4 y - 2.

  • A polynomial of degree two is called a quadratic polynomial e.g.,

       5 z   -2y²

  • A polynomial of degree three is called cubic polynomial e.g.' 2 x² - z³

  • A polynomial of degree four is called biquadratic polynomial

        e.g., 3x² - 5 z⁴
