DEMOCRACY :

• The word Democracy was derived from two Greek words - "Demo" means "people" and "Kratos" means "rule".

• In simple words Democracy means the rule of people.

According to Abraham Lincoln, "Democracy is a government of the people, by the people, for the people.

There are two types of democracy. They are namely : Direct and Indirect Democracy.

DIRECT DEMOCRACY :

• The Democracy in which people elect their rulers directly is called as "Direct Democracy".

• Direct Democracy works with its devices.

• There are four direct Democratic devices. They are Plebiscite, Intiative, Referendum and Recall.

• This type of Democracy is seen in small countries. Ex : Switzerland.

INDIRECT DEMOCRACY :

• The Democracy in which people elect their rulers indirectly is called as "Indirect Democracy".

• In direct Democracy, people elect representatives and representatives elect their rulers.

• In direct Democracy representatives are the electors.

• Indirect Democracy is suitable for big countries. Ex: India
