Democracy is a form of government in which the rulers are elected by the people.

Democracy is a type of government system where the people of the country have the power to make decisions about their country and the government doesn’t simply impose its decision on the people. The most modern interpretation of democracy was given by American President, Mr. Abraham Lincoln, who said ‘democracy is the government of the people, for the people, by the people’. In today’s contemporary world, democracy has been accepted as the best form of government, although its successful working depends on certain pre-requisites. The word 'democracy' means 'rule by the people. 'A democracy is a system where people can change their rulers in a peaceful manner and the government is given the right to rule because the people say it may.

→ The rulers of the nation are elected representatives.
→ There are proper elections held for choosing of rulers.
→ A rule of law is followed by everybody.
→ The citizens have a lot of liberty.
→ An independent judiciary exists.
→ A political opposition exists.
→ A democratic government is more accountable for its action than a non-democratic government. Moreover, in case the government is not functioning properly then citizens can vote for other leaders.
Know more, A good democracy has no discrimination in voting rights on the basis of gender or race or social status. The democracy in which election or voting is not fair is called “flawed democracy”. Self-rule, fairly distributed between the people, is the most essential aspect of democracy. It is possible to view the word self-rule as political force. The word distributed uniformly implies as evenly as possible. It is difficult for all to have equal control in a democracy.
