The definition of democracy is a form of government in which the common people hold political power and can rule either directly or through elected representatives. An example of democracy at work is in the United States, where people have political freedom and equality.

the following arguments in favour of democracy:

(i) A democratic government is a better government because it is a more accountable form of government.

(ii) Democracy improves the quality of decision making because a democratic decision always involves many persons, discussions and meetings.

(iii) In any society people are bound to have differences of opinions and interests. Democracy provides a method to deal with differences and conflicts.

(iv) Democracy enhances the dignity of concise.

(v) Democracy is better than other forms of governments because it allows us to correct its own mistakes.
