Answer:
However, both have different views when it comes to scriptures, liberation, dress, the birth of Mahavira etc. Digambara means “sky-clad” i.e. naked and Svetambara means “white-clad”, that's why they wear white clothes.
Explanation:
have already answer this question earlier. Let me explain this again.
To understand this we would need to go back to the history of Jainism.
It was a one for all however after around 200 years of the salvation of Mahavira, during the reign of Chandragupta Maurya , Bhadrabahu a leader of Jain community predicted the terrible famine hence decided to migrate towards the south . Sthulbhadra another Jain leader and his followers decided to stay in Magadha itself. Who stayed in the Magadha started wearing a white cloths referred as a Shwetamber. Also the in absence of Bhadrabahu original doctrines were changed and some of them were lost. Hence on the basis of some principle difference division of Jainism has taken place.
Below are the difference:
Decoration and worship of idols : Shwetambaras can adorn their idols with clothes and ornaments while Digambaras do not.
Monks life : Shwetambara monks can posses 14 different things specified by doctrines while Digambara monks can only have fan made from fallen peacock feathers and a vessel.
19th tirthankara Mallinatha : As per Swetamber sec 19th tirthankara Mallinatha was a female, and digamber sect a Tirthankara.
4. Birth and Life of Mahavira : As per swetamber Mahavira was transformed from a brahmin woman Devanada to the Mahavira's mother Trishla who had 14 dreams (according to Digambara tradition 16 dreams) before the birth Mahavira. And Mahavira was married and had a daughter before he decided to follow ascetic life. While Digambaras reject both the stories.
5. Liberation of Woman: Digambara believes that women cannot achieve liberation directly. They first have to reborn as a man for this, however according to swetamber, women are equally capable of achieving liberation as a man.
6. Namokar Mantra: Digambara Jains believe that one should recite only the first five lines of the Mantra, however, Svetambara Jains hold that one should recite all the nine lines.
Both agree on the fundamental Jain principles and the five vows in Jainism. However, both have different views when it comes to scriptures, liberation, and above explained views.
Thanks!
