Dialysis is the process by which the waste products and excess fluids are removed from the body when kidneys stop working properly. It filters the blood using a machine. When the kidneys are failed, the treatment of dialysis is given to patient whose kidneys are failed. The machine used for the dialysis performs the same functions as of the kidney to filter the blood and remove excess fluids and waste products from the body.

It is also know as renal replacement therapy. The loss of kidney function is called as acute kidney injury. There are two types of dialysis, they are Hemodialysis and Peritoneal dialysis.

When a person suffers from kidney failure or his/her kidneys stop functioning, he/she has to undergo dialysis. In brief dialysis is the process of removing wastes from the blood artificially.
★ How dialysis works:-
The patient's blood is taken out of an artery and allowed to pass through a tube whose wall is semipermeable. The tube which is dipped in a solution works like a sieve. It allows the smaller waste particles to pass out of the blood into the solution. But it does not allow the blood cells and proteins, which are larger to pass through.
