Answer:

Dialysis is a process of purification of blood by artificial methods. It is mainly performed in people who have kidney failure.

Dialysis is mainly concerned with removal of Nitrogenous waste materials from blood such as

  • Urea
  • Uric acid
  • Hippuric acid
  • Creatinine, etc.

The patients blood is taken out of the body using tubes and passed into dialysis chamber. The walls of the tube is semi-permeable.

As per osmosis, the waste products are removed and the purified blood is returned back to the body.

Dialysis prolongs the life of a patient suffering from Kidneys or Splenic failure.

It’s a treatment that takes over your kidney functions if those organs stop doing their job.

TYPES;

There are two types of dialysis:

Hemodialysis: Your blood is put through a filter outside your body, cleaned, and then returned to you. This is done either at a dialysis facility or at home.

Peritoneal dialysis: Your blood is cleaned inside your body. A special fluid is put into your abdomen to absorb waste from the blood that passes through small vessels in your abdominal cavity. The fluid is then drained away. This type of dialysis is typically done at home.
