If one of your kidneys stop functioning, the other kidney can do its work and you can lead a normal life, but if both of your kidneys are damaged, then you need dialysis, which is a machine by which urea from your blood is artificially removed by taking blood from the vein of your hand and then filtering it through the machine, and then again returning the filtered blood into the artery of your hand.
