what is difference between 1 st order derivative test or higher order derivative test for local maxima or minima why we need higher order derivative test if we have 1 st order derivative test

The first order derivative test (i.e dy/dx = 0) tells you whether it's a turning point.

The second order derivative test is used to find out whether it's a maximum or minimum (or in some cases, neither).
