What is difference between acids and bases? What are indicators? Name some natural and human made indicators! What is the function of pancreas and abdomen.. Explain briefly... Why sting of ant contains formic acid? Why zinc carbonate is present in calamine solution? What does digestive juices contain? Why we only inhale oxygen? Why only oxygen is used for breakdown of food? Why oxygen supports burning? Explain with activity (Answer only if u know all) xD
Answers
1) Acids -
• Acids are sour in taste
• Acid turns blue litmus to red
• Acid is a substance which contains Hydrogen ion H'
Base -
• Bases are bitter in taste
• Bases turn red litmus to blue
• Bases are substances which contain Hydroxyl ion OH
2) Red cabbage and Grape juice are examples of natural indicators
Litmus paper and phenolphthalein are examples of human made indicators
3) Pancreas is an organ located in the abdomen. It plays an essential role in converting the food we eat into fuel for the body cells . The pancreas has two main function: an exocrine function that helps in digestion and an endocrine function that regulates blood sugar.
The primary functions of the abdomen consist of digestion, breathing, posture and balance, as well as movement. The major organs located in the abdomen are associated with digestion, for which the functions are described above. The abdomen is also required for breathing via the accessory muscles of respiration.
4) Formic acid is an irritating chemical present in the sprayed venom of some ant species and in the secretion released from some stinging nettles. It's dangerous at high concentrations, but at low concentrations it's very useful. Humans use formic acid as a food preservative, since it's an antibacterial substance.
5) Calamine solution contains zinc carbonate which is basic in nature. Therefore, it is applied on the skin to neutralize the effect of formic acid.
6) Gastric juice contain - Protein
Pancreatic juice contain - Proteins
7) you inhale oxygen because you need oxygen for some biological processes. A fairly important one is the production of ATP, the energy all of our cells use. In the process, electrons are used and oxygen has a high affinity for electrons
8) Cellular respiration is the process in which cells break down molecules for energy. The cells use oxygen to break down food in the form of glucose to produce water and release carbon dioxide. In this reaction, energy is produced in the form of ATP that is used by the cell for its various activities.
9) Activity- Take a candle and fix it on a table . The candle is lighted . The candle will continue to burn due to Continusely available fresh air providing the oxygen for combustion.
Now cover the burning candle by putting an inverted gas jar over it. After a short time, the candle stops burning and extinguished.
When the burning candle is covered with the jar , then the candle takes away the oxygen necessary for burning from the air enclosed in the jar. After some time, when all the oxygen of air inside the jar is used up , then the burning candle get extinguished. This proves that oxygen is necessary for burning.

red litmus blue
sour in taste
H+ ions
HCl , HNO3
Bases :
blue litmus red
bitter in taste
OH+ ions
NaCl , KOH
indicators check whether the solution is acidic basic or neutral....eg. Some examples of natural indicators are red cabbage, turmeric, grape juice, turnip skin, curry .
