QUESTION..

  • what is difference between atomic mass and gram atomic mass...

ANSWER..

  • Mass of single atom of any element is represented in terms of amu (atomic mass unit)

  • 1 amu= mass of a proton

  • i.e 1.66*10^-24 g

  • For eg if the mass of carbon (C) is 12 amu then it represents the mass of a single Carbon atom

  • =12*1.66*10^-24g

  • But gram atomic mass represents the mass of one mole of any element for eg

  • If the mass of carbon atom is 12g then it represents the gram atomic mass of carbon.

  • 12g = 1 mole of C atoms
