chlorine is an atom consisting of 17 electron 17 protons it is an unstable form of chlorine because it has 1 less electron in the outer shell when the chlorine atom an election for its outer shell it form chloride ion the chloride ion is more stable because the ion has completed it its octet and it achieved and inert gas configuration
