A chromosome is made up of twochromatids which are joined by the centromere. The chromatidsseparate from each other during mitosis to form two newchromosomes. The DNA making up a chromosome is dispersed as chromatin.

chromosome is a  thread-like structure of nucleic acids and protein found in the nucleus of most living cells, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.

where as chromatids are each of the two thread-like strands into which a chromosome divides longitudinally during cell division. Each contains a double helix of DNA.
