If the soil contains greater proportion of big particles, it is called sandy soil. (b) If the soil contains greater proportion of fine particles, it is called clayey soil.

The main difference is clayey soil is less porous than sandy soil in nature.Sand can't hold water but up to some extent clay can hold.
