what is difference between deputy commissioner or district collector? what is the full form of DC in social science?

I opine that there is no difference between the two posts.

The IAS officers are named differently in different districts or in different fields.

District Magistrate District Collector Deputy Commissioner

Though the two names as mentioned in the question refer to a very single post yet their works differ.

When an IAS officer performs the following duties :-

Land Assessment Land Acquisition Collection of land Revenue Collection of various taxes distribution of agriculture loans

At this very moment, he is termed as District Collector.

And if he performs the following duties :-

Maintenance of law and order.Supervision of police and Jail's Supervision of subordinate executive

Then he is termed as a District Magistrate.

Still he'll be called an IAS OFFICER.
